English, the official in a large number of countries, has become a Lingua Franca in this present era. It is estimated that 2 billion people in the world use English to communicate on a regular basis. English is the leading business language and it has become almost a necessity of the people to speak English if they are to enter a global workforce. Research have shown that communication is most often conducted in English all over the world in different fields like Business, Trade, Commerce, Technology, Teaching and Tourism. Its importance is that it can change the lives of the learners. Many of the world’s top books, films and music are published and produced in English. Therefore by learning English the learners will have access to a great wealth of knowledge and entertainment. So it is undeniably considered as gateway to the world of opportunities.
Introduction
The department of English of this college was started in the year 1967 in the campus of the Government Polytechnic, Nandyal, Kurnool district. Later the college was shifted to the present campus in the year 1979.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT :
The Department of English was started at the time of the inception of the college itself in the year 1967. It was then opened by Sri T.Subramanian, an eminent professor of English and a well known writer of 66” know your English columns published in the news paper The Hindu.
This was the only Government College to provide UG courses to the youth of the Nandyal town and surrounding rural areas till eighties. This college was affiliated to S.V.University and at present, is affiliated to the Rayalaseema University, Kurnool.
The Department Teachers English language and literature to all the students of all groups upto second year degree courses in this college. It has been imparting quality education for the benefit of the student community.
